It’s OK To Put Yourself First
During the holiday season, it's easy to put ourselves last on the to-do list. Between shopping, cooking, family commitments, and work deadlines, it can feel like there’s no time left for self-care. But here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup. Make yourself a priority. It’s not selfish—it’s essential. Let me explain what I mean. It’s not bubble baths and massages. They are part of it but it’s more than that. This is what self care really is:
Create boundaries that honor your energy. Say “no” to commitments that feel draining or unnecessary. Remember, “no” is a complete sentence. Protect your time and space like they’re the most valuable gifts you can give yourself—because they are.
Schedule moments of intentional self-care. Add them to your calendar like you would a meeting or appointment. Whether it’s 15 minutes of journaling, a quiet cup of tea in the morning, or an hour-long yoga class, these pockets of time allow you to recharge.
Recognize that your feelings matter and take action to address them. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Tired? Joyful? When you tune in, you can respond to your needs with compassion. Maybe you need rest, or maybe a walk in nature is what your soul is craving. Make sure you listen to your body and mind.
You’re creating a ripple effect of positivity in the lives of those around you by taking time for yourself. When you feel grounded and fulfilled, you have more to give—whether it’s love, attention, or support. Makes sense but may be difficult to do. It’s time to change your tune because you show up better for others when you put yourself first. It’s win-win for everyone!
Take a moment and ask yourself: “What do I need to feel my best?” Then, give yourself permission to pursue it. You deserve the same love and care you give to everyone else.
