What if it all works out?
We are wired to think negatively. It goes back to the beginning of mankind. Everyone was fighting for their life and they were literally watching their back to defend themselves. Survival is still important today but now it is your negative thoughts and limiting beliefs that can totally stop you in your tracks. Instead of going into a complete downward spiral, you can do the opposite and ask "What if it all works out?" Instead of imagining all the things that could go wrong, envision how it would look if you could live the life of your dreams. Take this idea and run with it. I wish I had known it sooner. It can change the way you think when you are in the middle of a difficult time, or when you spiral down into your negative thoughts.
Try this exercise. Close your eyes for a moment and get really still. Take a few deep breaths. Picture yourself livin’ the dream. Now answer the following questions:
Where are you? Are you by the sea, with the sound of waves gently lapping on the shore, or in the mountains by a stream, in a cabin by a lake, or in the middle of the forest? Are you in a bustling city, energized by all that it has to offer, or in the countryside, embracing the simple, slow-paced life of a homestead? Are you in a sleek, modern high-rise apartment with a view that takes your breath away? Or a cozy, rustic home with just what you need, built to nurture your soul?
Imagine all the details. What can you see, smell, and hear? What can you touch? How does it feel?
Who are you with? Are you sharing your success with a partner, surrounded by family, friends, or colleagues? Are you with like-minded people who support and inspire you? Or are you on a spiritual journey finding peace and joy on our own?
What are you doing? Are you running a business that lights you up? Is your daily life full of meaningful work, creativity, and joy? Or have you slowed down and created balance in all areas of your life?
That should help you get out of a funk and take action. Then write down your thoughts. Be specific. Let this become a roadmap for your next chapter.
Now, let’s take it a step further. If you’ve created this vision in your mind and written it down, what’s the first action you can take today to to make it a reality? It doesn’t have to be a huge leap; small steps add up. Every big accomplishment begins with a single step—and the sooner you take that first step, the closer you will be to creating the life of your dreams.
These questions align you with possibility. This exercise is designed to help you feel more confident and empowered. You may begin to find opportunities and solutions that you had not noticed before. You have chosen to focus on what you want instead of what you want to avoid—and that small shift in perspective can be a catalyst for incredible personal growth.
